They spit. They wear shirts with awkward English phrases. They drive like there’s no tomorrow. They’re China! We decided to start the day off with a competely Chinese experience….breakfast at McD’s. They put soft serve ice cream in my coffee. BRILLIANT! Feeling a little bit of the culture shock, we decided to head over to the local Wal-mart. Srsly. And after an afternoon of shopping along one of the main streets within the wall (Xi’an is surrounded by the oldest in-tact (after a rebuild…) wall in China), the Wal-mart shopping experience was probably the best. It’s mostly a grocery store here. They also have a wall of fish tanks….fresh!! (unless you pick a dead one)! So many cool lookin’ candies and fruits to try! Next, our lovely host, Patrick, took us to the Muslum district where we got these awesome (but a tad spicy..you know me…) chicken sandwhiches. The best way I can describe them is like it was a lamb kabob, sliced off of the twirling/roasting meat wad on a stick, but chicken instead of lamb. Guess how much one chicken sandwhich and a large iced tea cost? Mmmmyeah about $1.10!! Huzzah! It’s about $1 to 7rmb. So things here cost like they would in Chicago, but then you get to divide that by 7! After getting grossed out by the fly-ridden raw meat that’s abundant on the streets in the Muslum area, Joee and I decided to play tourist s’more and visit the Drum and the Bell Towers. If you care about the history…google it. It was cool for us to see the buildings, but much more entertaining to watch the traffic circle it! Patrick is going to introduce us to some of his friends over a hot pot dinner in a bit. We’ll see how that goes. I’m uploading my pics to my Flickr page, cause that’s not blocked here! Enjoy! www.flickr.com/irocarol
