Fun Times in Seoul
Suj and I drifted out on our own for a few nights in Seoul. Here’s some highlights! Wednesday On a quest to find the Dr Fish Cafe, we wondered the streets of Hongik University (yep! went back to the same hostel I stayed at for the first few nights cause I loved it so much!) lost and confused, only to realize that the place had closed about a year ago. Fortunately for us, we stumbled into...

PUPPIES! (in Korea)
“Kay” means dog. And there’s LOTS here! “Anyoung-ah-say-oh? Collect call from Cutesville? Of course I’ll accept the charges!” “Kaygogi means dog meat! Where’s the bunz!?” “Who’s talking? It’s not my fault my eyez have not grown in yet!” “Let me out of this cage so I can LOOOOVE you!” ...

Here I'm known as "SueJanna Chingu"
That’s Korean for “SueJanna’s Friend!” It’s funny AND true! Since I’ve become a proxy member of the Truscott family, I’ve gotten a taste of what true Koreans are like. They like to eat. They are SUPER friendly. They also like to rush around and get things done in a no-nonsense sort of way. I’ve learned that “bolly bolly!!” means...

Bucket Listed No More
Here are some things I got over today: 1. Fear of having my lips ripped off by a pack of wild piranhas. 2. Fear of being eaten by a shark. And then big Jaws says to little Jaws, he says “So whatter ya feelin for dinner tonight, huh? A little Korean maybe?” - This kid crawled through the “face hole” of this sharky photo-op. Luckily I had my camera good and ready. 3....

Butt I'm not a Seoul-ja!
Yet! As I anxiously await the arrival of Suj and her Dad,  I’m gonna go exploring. I woke up at the butt crack of dawn this morning and decided to walk around the area my hostel is in (hongdae - which Mary, the hostel hostess with the mostess, informed me is a combo b/w the Hong from “Hongik University” and whatever “dae” means.) There’s a TON of trendy shops...

Phil Collins Adventure Club...GO!
Remember Showbiz Pizza? The ‘Rents took me a few times when I was a kid before Chuck E. Cheese ate the franchise and took over. After watching this: “The Rock-afire Explosion” it brought back all of these nostalgic feelings of being a kid again and feeling proud of my straight A’s (you bring in your report card and get a free token for each A!). Turns out this dude, Chris...

Leave it to China...
So yesterday I decide to save myself 3RMB and take the hostel’s free shuttle bus to the Yuyuan Gardens. Sounds lovely, right? Silly me, I assumed “gardens” meant some sort of green area. Ha! Nope. Shopping center. Some rich dude bought out these ancient buildings, had them all gut re-habbed, then turned them into..yep..you guessed it….shop after shop selling the same crap...

When you go somewhere, then leave, then come back...
I’m back in Shanghai! Crisis averted. After asking around enough, I finally got the answer I wanted: “You’re allowed to leave the hostel, so you can go to the train station for your train, but you’re just not allowed to come back in!” I’m fine w/ that. So that’s what I did. They had the whole area blocked off w/ police tape. However as I passed each area...

The trick to blogging in China....
I’ve gotten a few Facebook comments on some of my posts, which is fun for me to hear from people. However, this is why I can’t respond. In case you didn’t know, fun is not allowed in China. This includes Facebook, Twitter, and even Tumblr. All of these sites are blocked. So to get around this…Dan had to hack into my Tumblr account and set it up so I could just email posts...

Communism...ain't da Bombunism!
So Oct 1st is National Day here in China. And from what I hear, it’s good I’ll be gone before that. Because I guess if I feel like it’s crowded now….it doesn’t even compare. Aside from all the moon cakes everywhere (not to be confused w/ it’s American rival: the moon pie) there’s a whole bunch of schannigans with parades, floats, going all out. I guess...

Gee, Ma, I wanna go....back where the toilets...
Srsly, folks. I can’t wait to get back to the good ol U S of A and drop a nice duce on it. Well, not on it in some sort of unpatriotic way, but IN it. IN one of those nice ones you can sit on where there’s always a roll or two of TP next to it and when you flush it your feet don’t get wet and it doesn’t smell vile as all whatever because you can’t flush the tp, you...

You know it's bad when you start to think 25RMB...
I spent my last afternoon in Shanghai on a short tour arranged through my hostel, of the water village, Zhujiajiao, just outside of town. It was very scenic. I small river ran though a very old fashioned looking village. However, such is the way of Chinese tourism, instead of quaint little homes or shops lining the river, it was all stand after stand of the same crap that every other tourist shop...

I got a case of the learns...
In case you should travel to China anytime soon, and assuming they speak Mandarin in that part, here’s all you need to know to get by: (note: these are spelled phonetically) Hello: Nee How Goodbye: Tjeye Tzing Thanks: Shea Shea Cold Beer: Bing Pee-jo (Very important. When it’s colder outside they prefer warm beer. This country really is backwards…) Cold One: Bing Da (?) Empty...

Ever wonder where Eminem went?
Apparently he moved to China. He’s in restaurants, bars, shoe stores, the hostel lobby…. In other news, I just saw Joee off this morning. I don’t remember if I said this, but she got a pretty decent cold the past few days. Therefore, I’m glad to see her go. Kidding! I’m actually going to miss the company as I navigate around the country of little characters (the...

Shang-lo....sweet chariot!
Everyone was telling us how much of a difference Shanghai would be from Xi’an. They really weren’t kidding. First of all, it was a huge relief for Joee and I when we were bombarded by Americans willing to lend us some advice or point us in the right direction as soon as we got off the airport shuttle bus into the city. One lady was from Edgewater. Then another guy was from Lincoln...

With a little bit o luck o the Mudra
A poem: Oh woe is me. Woe is me. A true Xi’an experience, The next camera will be three. Wear your purse in front! And over the shoulder! Good advice from Dad, No statement could be bolder! A nice lunch at Pizza Hut A stroll to the Mosque A reach for my camera…BUT!! Yes, I’m now too a victim of pickpocket, If I saw who did it, I’d punch in their eye socket. To avoid it, I...

Cya Xi'an!
Today is our last day in Xi’an. I feel like we could have left a few days ago. Not that I’m bored, but there’s a limited amount of “must see” sites for tourists. We’re also craving pizza. I think a trip to the “much too classy” Pizza Hut in town is in order for this afternoon. After being SO over the “we’re in a foreign...

Me Chinese, Me Play Joke....
So i bought a new camera yesterday. We had to buy pictures of us in front of the Goose Pagoda water show the other night. Dude wanted 10RMB for 2 pictures. So we take the two. And of course when we go to pick them up he’s all “oh! well it’s 10RMB for two pictures of one picture….if you want two sets of both that’s 20RMB!” So after some amusing arguing b/w...

As Mudra's Law would have it....
I’m digital camera-less for the moment. Yes. I know….the explanation: I dropped it into a sweet waterfall this morning. At least this beats the story of my last camera’s demise: death by Jack and Diet. Events that will now only live on in my memory: 1) “Pooh Wonderful, Tastes Good” bag. 2) Terracotta Warriors 3) us dressed in costume as Terracotta Warriors 4) Chinese...

This is my post that I tried to post yesterday....
They spit. They wear shirts with awkward English phrases. They drive like there’s no tomorrow. They’re China! We decided to start the day off with a competely Chinese experience….breakfast at McD’s. They put soft serve ice cream in my coffee. BRILLIANT! Feeling a little bit of the culture shock, we decided to head over to the local Wal-mart. Srsly. And after an afternoon of...
